Conway Springs 67031, KS — From: https://www.midkansasonline.com/2022/04/01/mhs-boys-tennis-first-at-conway-springs/ Conway Springs, Kan. – The McPherson High Boys Tennis team competed at Conway Springs Thursday, where Coach Tyler Brown, and his assistant coach Ricardo Sanchez are still trying to find the top 6 that will be able to prove themselves late in the season, as they took a mixture of freshman and seniors to the meet. “The snowy morning turned into a beautiful afternoon for tennis.” said Coach Sanchez, “We were finally able to finish a tournament without the weather interrupting it!” Lighting, and some sprinkles had forced an end to the opening Invitational in McPherson earlier this week. The Pups would all compete in the championships, coming away with a first place finish with 21 points. Hutch Trinity followed with 17. At No. 1 singles, Alex Berger went 1-1 on the day, opening against a state medalist in Class 321A, as he finished second on the day, his third match was a default win due to an opponent injury. Sanchez would say, “He (Alex) played some good points and saw what it takes to play consistently at that next level.” Bishop Brown finished first in No. 2 singles going 3-0 on the day. “He moves well around the court, and can handle most things thrown his way. As the day progressed, I could see that he is learning what shots to go for at the appropriate times, and how to construct points to fit his style of play.” said Sanchez. In terms of doubles, he mentioned a bit of a slow start, but was pleased with the improvements made from each match, saying. “Josh and Bryson were extremely coachable, and followed the game plan in their last two matches. Connor and Braden incorporated more movement at the net, and became a lot more successful in finishing points” said Sanchez, adding it was something that had been emphasized in practice. Coach Brown and Coach Sanchez will likely have a new group travel to the varsity meet Tuesday, where they’re set to travel to Wamego for an Invitational at 9 a.m. that includes; Bishop Seabury Academy, Hiawatha, Kansas City Christian, Maranatha Christian, and Marysville.
