Wayne, NJ — Clifton Mustangs Varsity sweeps PCTI for the week with a huge 5-4 win in the 8th inning at PCTI. Kyle Rogers got the win, pitching 6 innings allowing seven hits while sitting down 7 players with strikeouts. Kyle Vellis pitched two innings striking out 5 batters, shutting down the bulldogs to secure the win. The Mustangs went ahead early in the first inning with a triple by Juan Peralta who scored on another triple by the next batter, Josh Miller. PCTI answered with two runs of their own in the first inning and another in the fourth inning making it 3-1. Mustangs tied the game in the top of the sixth inning when Josh Miller started things off with a single to center, followed by a triple by Justin Rivera, scoring Miller. Jayden Severino singled to score Rivera from third making it a 3-3 game. PCTI answered again, this time with a home run in the bottom of the 6th to take the lead 4-3. Connor Reed drew a walk to start the top of the seventh inning. Reed advanced to third on a balk followed by a wild pitch and scored on a sac fly to right field by Miller making it a 4-4 game. Vellis shut PCTI down in the bottom of the 7th to force the game into extra innings. Vinny Civitella went deep with a double off the centerfield fence in the top of the eighth and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Chris Stathopoulos hit a sac fly ball to right field to score Civitella from third. Kyle Vellis shut PCTI down in the bottom of the eighth to send the hats and gloves flying as Mustangs won 5-4 at PCTI's home field. Jayden Severino and Josh Miller had multiple hits. Peralta, Rivera, Civitella and Mocera each collected a hit. Peralta, Miller and Rivera each recorded a triple on the day. A great day as the Mustangs tallied 8 hits off PCTI, including the 95MPH Mule. It was the shortest after game huddle in four years, filled only with inspirational praise by Coach Rivera!
