Rutherford , NJ — It was a pitching duel on April 16, but Clifton Mustangs Varsity came out on top defeating Rutherford 3-1 on a rainy, cloudy day. Kyle Rogers went 5 innings, striking out nine and received the win with help from Connor Reed who closed things down in the 6th and 7th inning. Both pitchers only allowed 5 hits. On offense, the mustangs scored the first run off a double by Nick Plaskon on a 3-2 count. Rutherford tied things up in the fourth inning. Kyle Rogers drove in a go ahead run in the fifth inning to make it 2-1 Clifton. Kyle Vellis launched a long ball to left field for a home run in the seventh inning to end the game 3-1. Kyle Rogers went 2-3 with additional hits coming from Manny Gonzalez, Justin Rivera and Jayden Severino. Mustangs Varsity finished preseason with their 4th win today and will open the regular season Monday, April 19 away against Wayne Valley.
